Who are we?

This widely-known Canadian hardware company & building center is looking for a new Estimator to join their close-knit team located in Smithville, ON. The Estimator develops plans to meet customer requirements and prepares takeoffs and estimates for the project costs.  This person will develop plans and specifications for home and /or commercial construction projects and compiles lists of materials from blueprints. This role will include time in the office as well as time out meeting contractors on job sites to support the generation of new sales for the business.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Develop plans and specifications for consumer and commercial customers or contractors
  • Explain the need for and the proper use of materials to the customer
  • Up-sell features and benefits to customers
  • Understand and be able to explain building code requirements to customers
  • Prepare lists of materials based on blueprints
  • Try to accommodate the contractors prescribed budget
  • Cultivate relationships with suppliers and contractors
  • Conduct regular competitive analysis and keep leadership informed
  • Supply customers and/or management with accurate estimates on a timely basis
  • Attend customer calls when requested to do so
  • Participate in meetings training sessions, conferences, etc., when appropriate

Qualifications Include:

  • Must have previous experience estimating for residential construction projects; commercial experience is valid but not the main focus
  • At least 3 years of experience in residential construction estimating
  • This is an experienced estimator that has strengths and knowledge in measurement, math, construction technology and materials
  • Social & Friendly, this person will communicate effectively with contractors and DIY homeowners, suppliers and with internal team members with a great team spirit
  • Capable of reading & comprehending construction drawings, specs, and blueprints to prepare designs and estimates promptly and accurately
  • Proficiency in MS Office, PlanSwift, and other drafting-related software is a must-have
  • Have proper training in drafting, designing, estimating, and blueprint reading OR the hands-on knowledge and willingness to take on new training
  • Education equivalent to or greater than an architectural technician and/or construction technology a strong compliment to the direct Estimating work experience
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. and stand for extended periods of time
  • Ambitious mindset, willing to help an already flourishing business to continue to grow and expand
