Little Canada is a high detailed and animated journey through Canada in miniature.  This permanent attraction will open in summer 2020 in the heart of downtown Toronto and occupy two floors at Yonge-Dundas Square. Our goal is to be a top 10 attraction in the GTA, with anticipated attendance of over 500,000/year.

Job Overview:

The Mechatronics Specialist, Robotronics and Vehicles, is guided by our first value – we create to amaze!  As part of our Miniature Makers team, she/he will be responsible for planning and installing the controls and wiring infrastructure that animate and bring to life our Little Canada attraction.  This role leverages a combination of electronics documentation maker skills, and may require the ability to work under our miniature world displays (in Little Canada’s “upside-down”, so to speak).

Job Responsibilities:

  • The Mechatronics Specialist, Robotronics and Vehicles, reports to, and is supported by, our Leader of Robotronics and Vehicles.
  • She/he plans and installs the wiring and modular connectors to create the back-end infrastructure to support technical elements – lighting, animations and other effects.
  • She/he creates schematics to document wiring for maintenance, repair and future modifications.
  • She/he trains the build team in proper wiring installation for the structures, cityscapes and other animated elements of the miniature world.
  • She/he assists the Build team in other wiring and animation projects

Qualifications and Experience:

  • We love to hear from Makers- those who love to create to design and build
  • Experience running wires, installation, prototyping, hands on design and install duties even as an Inventor Hobbyist 
  • Practical experience and proficiency in Linux and Python, C++, Windows
  • Practical experience with micro processors such as Raspberry Pi, Arduino
  • Famiarity with installation of fine electronics connectors
  • Knowledge of mechatronics and application to physical animation and small vehicles is an asset.
  • Familiarity with soldering skills with SMD components and fine conductors an asset
  • Undergraduate degree or diploma in Electronics Theory and Computer Sciences
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills; ability to build rapport and work collaboratively

Wiring - Soldering - Mounting with nuts bolts

Mini automatic vehicles, radio computer control power/control hands on knowledge of and experience building

Flexibility in your schedule to work part time or full time

This is a Contract position based on either part-time or full time Monday to Friday schedule to get Little Canada up to their launch in Summer 2020. This can be ideal for people looking for an interesting and dynamic project, perhaps those who are semi retired, looking for flexible employment. 

This role is current based at our pilot site at 400 Britannia Road East in Mississauga.  At some point in 2020, estimated to be by end of March, this role will move to our permanent location, in the heart of downtown Toronto.
